Thesis Title: The Effect of Heat Treatment on Low Carbon Vanadium Microalloyed Forging Steels Used For High Strength Pipeline Flanges

Abstract: Vanadium microalloying additions have the potential for producing significant strengthening increases in heavy section forgings. However, the effect of microalloying additions in heavy section forging steels produced through quenching and tempering is not well understood. The goal of this research is to evaluate the through thickness microstructure and mechanical properties of microalloyed forgings that have been quenched and tempered. This research will expand the understanding of materials and methods that have produced flange products that have traditionally fallen short of industrial requirements for strength and toughness.
