Thesis Title: Correlating Microstructure and Toughness of Press-Hardened SteelsAbstract: The intent of this project is to establish a method for evaluating toughness of press hardened steels that is able to detect microstructural differences that arise from varying the hot stamping process parameters. A range of prior austenite grain size values are being evaluated in relation to their effect on metrics obtained from different testing methods for evaluating toughness of sheet. Additionally, microstructural evaluation will be done to gain an understanding of which features influence press hardened steel toughness.
