Thesis Title: Double Soaking Response of Medium-Manganese TRIP Steels

Abstract: The purpose of this project is to investigate innovative heat treating schedules to develop next generation advanced high strength steels (AHSS) containing austenite stabilized by manganese enrichment. A double soaking heat treatment has been proposed to create a microstructure of retained austenite and martensite in medium-manganese steels. This microstructure should display increased strength and ductility as compared for first generation AHSS, making it suitable for automotive safety critical applications where it would reduce vehicle weight and improve crash performance.
